Kapsa or Pervolakia gorge in Makrigialos, East Crete Print E-mail

kapsa-1 Kapsa or Pervolakia Gorge begins at the village of Kato Pervolakia 15km far from REVANS apts and 28 from Sitia, and ends at the Monastery of Kapsa, close to the coastal village of Goudouras, 8km east of Revans apartments.

The monastery looks as though it has been carved into the hill at the exit of Pervolakia Gorge, gazing out over the Libyan Sea and Koufonissi Island opposite.

This gorge is the deepest of all three of the gorges in Makrigialos region in and is undoubtedly the most challenging but you’ll be rewarded for your efforts as the scenery is simply stunning and contains some of the richest variety of natural fauna in the region. You need about 2,5 hours walking from the southern start by the Kapsa Monastery, to the Pervolakia settlement and about 2 hours to return.
